Hotel Kids’ Play Area Design | Indoor Rope Playground Case Study

As family vacations become an increasingly important part of travel, hotel kids’ play areas are no longer simply an optional amenity. A themed play space designed for children of different ages can enrich the family travel experience and become an essential part of a hotel’s family-friendly services.

Inspired by the concept of a “Cloud Forest,” this indoor kids’ play area at a resort hotel combines natural imagery, children’s play and the surrounding interior through handcrafted rope nets. Instead of assembling conventional play equipment, the project uses the unique qualities of rope netting to create a fully integrated spatial design.

Blue and white ceiling nets evoke the sky and clouds, while green themed nets extend from the walls toward the centre of the space. Floor nets and colourful hanging pods create play features at different heights. By connecting the ceiling, walls and floor, the design introduces greater depth and variety within a limited area.

Children can climb, bounce, crawl, swing or simply rest on the nets. One integrated rope net system supports multiple activities, allowing each child to explore the space in their own way.

A hotel kids’ play area should not only provide engaging activities but also complement the hotel’s overall interior environment.

The project uses blue, green and white as its main colour palette. Cloud forms, tree-canopy patterns and teardrop-shaped hanging pods create a fresh, nature-inspired atmosphere. The large handcrafted rope nets maintain visual openness while establishing a distinctive theme, turning the children’s area into an inviting family space for play, relaxation and photography.

Hotel children’s play areas are often constrained by floor area, ceiling height, structural columns and existing interior finishes. Unlike standard equipment with fixed dimensions, custom rope nets can be adapted in shape, size, colour and connection method to suit the specific site.

Rope Cube developed the net forms, surface tension, functional zones and protective enclosures according to the spatial conditions. This allows the play structures to fit the architecture more naturally and reduces the visual separation between the equipment and the interior environment.

A complete hotel kids’ play area should encourage children to participate while responding to families’ expectations for relaxation, quality time and a comfortable stay.

Through themed design and a multifunctional rope net system, the children’s area becomes more than a standalone play facility—it becomes part of the overall family vacation experience.
